Guide: A Connected System for Bariatric Surgery
An app and connected products that provide Support, Accountability, and Motivation after Bariatric Surgery.
Born as a clinical experiment I helped develop while at The Mayo Clinic's Center for Innovation, I dedicated my senior year Design Capstone to advancing and developing concepts for Bariatric Surgery patients. I became patient about this patient population after seeing the physical effects of emotional difficulties in their lives. Bariatric Surgery patients come to the time of surgery desiring a complete lifestyle change, embarking on a life-long journey to influence their behaviors and adopt healthy habits. They are an underserved population, with no specific digital health tools to help them.
Over the course of a 5-month semester, I created and developed this concept project from a spark on an idea all the way to testable prototypes. I worked as a one-man team on all Research, ideation, sketching, wireframing, visual mock ups, prototypes, and documentation. Along the way, I worked with surgeons and physicians, clinic staff and Bariatric patients themselves to run interviews, generate ideas, and validate concepts.
After building relationships with players in the Bariatric Surgery field looking to develop digital solutions, I continue to develop my thinking and push this work forward.
